Charm School: On Leash Manners and Obedience

Charm School is focused on practical, basic skills for everyday life, for dogs six months and older.

What’s Covered:

Sit, down, stay, and place
Come
Loose leash heeling
Wait at doorways
Cooperating for handling
Field trips to practice in the real world
Marker training for clear communication
Intro to hiking or biking in the winter, treadmill intro in the summer
House manners and settling in the house
Additional goals discussed during the consultation can also be addressed, eg. no jumping on people or staying off the furniture. Longer length programs are available for more complex behavior modification.

Adventure School: Off Leash Preparation

Adventure School is focused on behavior in public settings and preparation for off leash adventures, in addition to everything included in Charm School.

What's Covered:

Everything covered in Charm School, plus:
Off leash training
Extra practice in public settings (parks, hiking trails, in town, inside pet friendly shops) for better reliability

Consultation
30 day training stay with photo and video updates
4 private lessons spaced out during your dog’s stay, at pickup, and a followup in your home
Written guidelines and lifetime trainer support

Puppy Preschool: Early Foundations

Puppy Preschool is focused on early training foundations. This is a well-rounded program with a little of everything, designed for puppies 2-5 months old.

What's Covered:

Safe socialization with people, dogs, new experiences, and new environments
Age appropriate routines for house training and crate training
Handling to prepare for brushing, nail trims, grooming, and vet visits
Intro to come, sit, down, stay, place with a treat lure and reward
Intro to leash training
Marker training for clear communication
Wait at doorways
Puppy manners (no play biting, no jumping)
Additional goals discussed during the consultation can also be addressed. Longer length and split programs (one training stay at 2-4 months old and a second stay 7-10 months old as your puppy matures) are available for advancing beyond a great early foundation.

4 private lessons spaced out during your puppy’s stay, at pickup, and a follow up in your home
Written guidelines and trainer support throughout your puppy raising journey

Behavior Modification

Certain problem behaviors can be addressed during the standard board and train programs listed. Longer length custom programs (30-60 days) are available for more complex behavior modification on a case-by-case basis. Please Contact to speak with the trainer.

What to Expect

Your dog will stay at the trainer’s house in north Tucson in a safe, structured environment. Accepting very small numbers of board and train dogs at a time (max of three) means each dog gets the personal attention they deserve.

For your dog, during their stay:

multiple targeted training sessions each day focused on obedience, manners, and any specific goals or behaviors we have discussed
reinforcement of training throughout the day during daily routines (meal times, when loose in the house, etc.). Training time is all the time!
field trips to public pet friendly places to generalize training to different environments around different distractions
additional exercise and enrichment activities like free time to play in the yard, playtime with other dogs if appropriate, hiking or biking in the winter months, and/or treadmill introduction in the summer months
scheduled rest time which is critical for your dog to decompress and absorb new learning

For you:

photo and video updates during your dog's stay to keep you in the loop with your dog's progress and insight into their behavior
private lessons to teach you how to keep up your dog’s training at home. The human half of training is just as important as what your dog learns. Lessons are scheduled during your dog’s stay, at pick up, and a follow up in your home for a smooth transition.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get started?

The first step is a consultation in your home. This includes an evaluation of your dog’s behavior and temperament, discussing your goals for training, and training and management strategies you can start to implement right away. The cost of the consultation is applied toward your board and train. Please Contact to get started.

What is required to book?

Your dog must be current on rabies, DAPP, and bordetella vaccines. Young puppies must be up to date with all age appropriate vaccines but do not need to have finished their entire round of puppy vaccines.

A 25% deposit is due when booking to reserve your dog's training stay. Payment is accepted by check, cash, Zelle, and credit card.

Can I visit my dog during training?

Yes. A midway lesson during your dog’s training stay gives you a chance to visit with your dog and practice handling them using the new skills they have learned. Additionally, photo and video updates will keep you in the loop throughout your dog's stay.

Do you accept dogs from outside of Tucson?

Yes. Dogs have come for board and train at Charm School from all across Arizona and neighboring states. Please Contact to discuss logistics.
