Training Philosophy

Training should be enjoyable for both dogs and their people. I use a modern, blended approach that works with your dog's natural instincts and drives. Because every dog and household is different, training techniques are adjusted to best suit your goals and your dog as an individual.

I believe in proactive, intentional training and daily routines to build skills and habits that will last long term, for both you and your dog.

What can we help with?

Whether you need help with puppy raising, manners and basic obedience, problem solving, or you're ready to go beyond the basics, we are happy to help! Looking for something else, or not sure where to start? Contact Us to talk to the trainer.

Manners and Obedience: Walking your dog shouldn't be a workout. Our training programs cover leash manners, passing people and other dogs under control, polite greetings, coming when called, and learning to settle when it's time to relax.

Distraction Training: Does your dog listen well at home, but it all falls apart when you go for a walk or have visitors over? We can teach you how to ensure your dog's training will stick in real world situations.

Coming When Called: Want a dog that you can trust to come back when you call, even off leash and around distractions? Training your dog to come is the single most important behavior you can teach your dog.

Problem Solving: Address a specific behavior you want to change. Common issues we tackle include: barking, jumping on you or visitors, stealing, chewing, counter surfing, bolting out the door, digging, and pulling on leash.

Handling and Grooming: Do you have to wrestle your dog to brush them or trim their nails? Did your dog get a bad report from the grooming salon? Our training programs will teach your dog to cooperate for the grooming and handling they will need throughout their life.

Confidence Building: Shy or nervous dogs benefit from specific training exercises to build their self-confidence and create more optimism about the world around them.

Integrating Multiple Dogs: We will guide you through integrating a new dog or puppy or resolving conflict between your dogs to create harmony in your household.

Breed-Specific Enrichment: If it seems like you just can't tire out your dog, or your dog comes home after a walk with more energy than when you started, we can show you activities that will satisfy your dog's individual genetic tendencies and drives. (It's usually not more exercise, but the right kind of mental and physical exercise that results in a relaxed, fulfilled dog!)

Puppy Training: Start your puppy on the right path to become a well-behaved dog. We will help you through common puppy raising challenges like potty training, crate training, puppy biting and chewing, barking, and jumping and set the foundation for obedience training.

Teenage Dog Training: The teenage period between 6-24 months commonly comes with challenges like testing boundaries, poor impulse control, and over-excitability. We can help!

Rescue Dog Training: Training is an excellent way to build your relationship with a newly adopted dog, no matter their age, and teach them your household's routines and expectations while they settle into your home.

Specialty Training: Introduce your dog to scent work, rally obedience, or advanced dog tricks. These fun activities will keep your dog's mind busy, build their confidence, and reinforce your bond

Advanced Obedience: If your dog can lie down on cue, can they do it from a run 100ft away? Precise focused heeling, retrieves, jumps, behaviors at a distance and in motion, and more can be taught depending on your goals.

AKC Canine Good Citizen Evaluation: Evaluations are available for the AKC CGC Program, which includes: Canine Good Citizen, STAR Puppy, Canine Good Citizen Advanced, Urban Canine Good Citizen, and Trick Dog titles.

Adventure Dog Training: Do you want to bike with your dog, hike off leash, camp, paddle board, or kayak with your dog but are worried about their behavior or aren't sure how to start? We can help.

Don't see what you're looking for? Get in touch and tell us what you need. If we can't help you, we can probably refer you to someone who can!
